Tetra Pak, a global leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has released its China Carbon Neutral Action Report (2023) for the third consecutive year.

The report highlights the participation of all raw material suppliers for Tetra Pak converting factories in Beijing, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Kunshan, Jiangsu province, in its global sustainability initiative for suppliers, “Join us in Protecting the Planet”.

Tetra Pak China has achieved major reductions in total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and emissions intensity in its operations in 2023 compared to 2022, with various carbon reduction initiatives advancing steadily.

Reducing emissions across the value chain remains a core element of Tetra Pak’s climate strategy.

Globally, Tetra Pak has already reduced the absolute climate impact of its raw materials by 22 percent compared to 2019, with significant contributions from its suppliers in China.

The company continues to innovate to increase the use of renewable materials in packaging. One of the important approaches is to replace fossil-based polymers with plant-based polymers derived from sugarcane.

In 2023, the company’s plant-based DreamCap sales in China grew nearly 20 percent year-on-year, while the amount of Tetra Pak’s craft packaging increased eight-fold compared to 2022.

Tetra Pak is also working with industry partners to promote the recycling of post-consumption carton packages.

Mou Xiaoyan, vice president of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Tetra Pak Greater China said, “Achieving carbon neutrality requires unremitting efforts and deep collaboration. Tetra Pak will continue working closely with partners across the value chain to implement innovative emissions reduction measures, aiming to drive towards a lower-carbon and more sustainable food system.”
