Beijing recently hosted the Asia-Pacific launch of Steinway & Sons’ latest innovation, “SPIRIOCAST,” in tandem with Steinway’s 20th anniversary celebration in China. The gala concert was graced by Steinway’s Global President and CEO, Ben Steiner, and APAC President, Wei Wei, along with acclaimed pianist and Steinway Artist Lang Lang. This event marked a unique experience for music enthusiasts across the Asia-Pacific, unveiling a new era of musical innovation through simultaneous multi-city broadcasts.
Reflecting on over a century of close ties between Steinway and the Asia-Pacific region, Steiner emphasized Steinway’s commitment to China as a critical part of its global strategy. “Over the past two decades, Steinway has cultivated steady growth in China, infusing momentum into the Asia-Pacific market,” he stated. “As we celebrate this milestone, Steinway remains dedicated to bringing world-class technological innovation and craftsmanship to China, supporting the country’s vibrant piano arts scene.”
Introduced in 2015, Steinway’s SPIRIO high-resolution self-playing pianos have set new standards in craftsmanship and technology. Building on this, the 2019 SPIRIO|r model expanded the concept by allowing precise live-performance recording, editing and playback in Steinway’s proprietary high-resolution format.
The latest SPIRIOCAST feature, now available in the Asia-Pacific, brings a breakthrough: real-time music sharing across Steinway pianos. Through an iPad app, SPIRIOCAST allows performances on one SPIRIO piano to stream live to other SPIRIO pianos globally, integrating traditional performance with modern digital technology. This innovation opens new doors in music education and performance, creating a shared, interactive experience for pianists, students and enthusiasts alike. The result is an immersive, concert-like experience accessible from any location, whether in a concert hall or a private setting.
