A concert of excerpts of classic Chinese operas by professor Han Yanwen, a doctoral adviser at the China Conservatory of Music, and her 27 students, was held in Beijing on Dec 8.
The concert toured elsewhere before Beijing, including stints at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, the Shenzhen Cultural Center, and the Tianjin Conservatory of Music.
Excerpts were taken from operas including The White-haired Girl, Liu Hulan and The Long March.
On Aug 16, Han and her students performed in a concert of arias from operas including Mulan and La Traviata at the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Han sang Vissi d’arte, one of the most famous arias from Puccini’s Tosca, in both Chinese and Italian, blending the two languages, impressing the audience with its beauty.
