The 2024 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) is being held in Guangzhou, South China’s Guangdong province from December 2 to 4. Zhang Jianping, deputy director of the academic committee at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, commented on the tariff assertions made by US president-elect Donald Trump, noting that Trump’s warnings echo his statements and actions five years ago.
“According to a report released by the US think tank, the Peterson Institute for International Economics, over 400,000 jobs in the US have been lost due to the trade war,” he said. “The US trade war harms others without benefiting itself”, he added.
